Rick Apicella is an award winning writer/actor/director from Pearl River, NY whose work has received national and international praise. Most recently Best Play, Best Direction, Best Actor, and Best Actress awards for Addicted a short play about a man trying to end his love affair with the bottle at the 16th annual Aery 20/20 One Act Play Competition in Garrison, NY. Commended Play by the BBC for The Legend, an urban fairy tale about a boxer who doesn’t speak. Rick’s one-person play The Prodigy was selected for production by the internationally recognized United Solo Festival and produced on Theater Row, NYC.

 

Other awards include Best Play and Best Actor for his slapstick short Desire, Best Actor for his philosophical short comedy Flogged and Best Short Film nominee of the Garden State Film Festival for Justice, a postmodern drama based on the character Socrates. Rick has also won Best Actor and Best Director awards, most notably from the Strawberry Play Festival in NYC for Upside-down Mirror and BFF Soulmates respectively. Outside the stage, Rick can be seen on the television series’ I Witness, Shadow of Doubt, A Crime to Remember and Shattered. 

 

Rick is a member of the Music for Life team in Nyack, NY which brings creative arts therapy to children and young adults with a variety of challenges.
